Hello West Virginians! I just want to make sure you guys have heard about this little thing we're doing in Ohio. On October 3rd, 2009, several sites in Ohio will be holding mirrors of the Fall Kickoff Tournament (FKT), an Ohio-written tournament geared towards getting less-involved teams experience with the tossup/bonus format. Several of Ohio's most involved quizbowlers have put together a TU/B set and are providing it to hosts free of charge in the hopes that a small registration fee will attract some of those less active teams, and especially those that have had little to no experience in tossup bonus.
There are no Ohio mirrors of the FKT within a 2 hour drive of West Virginia, so my hope was that someone down there would be willing to host in order to draw some the West Virginia and SE Ohio crowd to this tournament. Many Ohio teams go to West Virginia tournaments and I know of some West Virginia teams that have attended Ohio tournaments as well, so a mirror of this tournament in West Virginia would, IMO, be very beneficial to both Ohio and West Virginia quizbowl. A place like Parkersburg would be an exellent location if anyone there were willing to host it.
As I stated, this tournament is being provided to hosts free of charge, so whomever hosts will be able to keep 100% of the proceeds, with the intent that it be spent building up your quizbowl program (attending tournaments, buying buzzers, etc). If anyone out there would like to host a mirror, or knows of anyone who may be interested in hosting a mirror, then please email me at sww8@NOSPAMcase.edu (omit the NOSPAM part obviously) so that we can work towards setting up a West Virginia mirror. The planned mirror date is October 3rd, but this can probably be pushed back a week or two if if the 10/3 date doesn't work for a potential host.
Thanks, and I hope that one of you out there makes this tournament a worthwhile endeavor. _________________ Winners never quit and quitters never win, but those who never win and never quit are idiots.
